Can an employer tell an employee (January 1 evening) not to come in to work the following morning? Normally work Mon-Fri 5+ hours/day. I do not get paid if I don't work but get 6% vacation (only this year - 4% for the last 12 years), stat holiday, etc. Do I wait to see if I get compensated for for the day on my next paycheque or can I approach my employer tomorrow, thanks

This depends on the terms and conditions of your employment with the company. If it is the case that you are always guaranteed work Monday - Friday, and never in the past has the employer told you not to come into work one day, this could amount to a constructive dismissal of your employment and could trigger your severance entitlements. If this has never happened before in your employment you should seek clarification from your employer on the issue.
