I was given a PIP today, and I asked for time to get it back to the employer before signing, I have till Tuesday, July 13, what if i dont give it by then?, can they terminate me? I need help with a response from a lawyer, a nd no lawyer available till after Wednesday, July 14 only.

Generally, an employee cannot be terminated for cause simply for refusing to sign a Performance Improvement Plan. If you have concerns regarding your PIP, it would be appropriate to ask for additional time to consider the items in the PIP appropriately.

If there are specific items within the PIP that you believe are unfair and/or unwarranted, you may wish to raise those items specifically (in writing) with your employer and explain why those items are not appropriate.

Please contact our intake team below to arrange a consultation with one of our lawyers if you would like to discuss further.
