What should i do at a termination meeting? Besides not sign a release. Do i take any cheque the present?

Thank you for your question. My name is Alex Lucifero - I am an employment lawyer with Samfiru Tumarkin LLP and manage our firm's Ottawa office. During a termination meeting you should be courteous and respectful, however upset you may be about the news you are hearing. Ask your employer if you can collect your belongings. You should accept whatever documents or letter your employer give you, even if it includes a cheque. That will not be considered acceptance of any kind of severance settlement. However, and as you mention, make sure you DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING, whether it is a Release, or anything else for that matter. You should then contact us immediately at the number below for a free consultation.
