I sent an email and breached corporate security. The email sent personal information about a client to a separate individual who has no business knowing. I alerted my boss, corporate security and completed everything I could to mitigate the breach. I am now concerned for my job. I have not been fired, as this occurred today, but I fear it may arrive at that. Is this considered cause and if so, I assume I'm not eligible for severance?

If this is the first issue of this nature and you have followed all proper protocols, then this will likely not amount to cause. If there is no cause, then you would be entitled to severance. However, if this is not the first such breach, or you have other recent disciplinary actions, then it could be cause. Determining whether just cause exists is often a very fact-driven exercise, so in either event, we would require more information. Further, even if they do not allege just cause, but terminate you anyway, then it may still be the case that they do not offer you enough severance.
