Ask your question about terminations, dismissals and lay offs and an employment lawyer in Ontario, BC or Alberta will answer in minutes
What changes if any does the Fair Workplaces act change in regards to severance?
Thank you for your question. My name is Jon Pinkus and I am an employment lawyer with Samfiru Tumarkin LLP.
The Fair Workplaces Act does not make changes to the minimum severance requirements of the Employment Standards Act. However, your obligation to pay your employees severance will likely not be governed solely by the Employment Standards Act, so if you are thinking of letting anyone go, I would strongly recommend that you get in touch with an employment lawyer.
If you would like to discuss this further, please email me at jon.pinkus@stlawyers.ca.
