Hi there,

You can seek termination pay if you were not given adequate notice of the release date in August.

According to the law in Ontario, your employment can be terminated at any time and for any (non discriminatory) reason. The only requirement is for your employer to give you proper notice of the termination, or pay in lieu of that notice.

The minimum amount of notice that you would be entitled to is one week - however you may be entitled to much more under the common law, possibly several months.

In order to properly assess your entitlements, we would need more information about your circumstances and the events that lead up to your termination.

Please contact our firm at the number below so that we can discuss some options and possible next steps.
