I work at a call centre, I started March 6, 2017 and was let go today June 12, 2017. The reason for my termination was because I didn't meet the probation requirements. During my training, there was a process called "OJT" on job training and once the sales target was met and other requirements to graduate was met (which I met), then each person would be assigned a manager. I graduated from the OJT Process. Shouldn't the OJT process be the period where I should BE accessed if I'm a good fit for the company. When I asked what the probation requirement I was not told what the probabtion requirement was and I was also told I couldn't be told what they are. I was just told I was not a good fit for the company. I'm an immigrant and also a visible minority. Could this be a factor as to why I was terminated?

Hello,

Thank you for your question.

My name is Chris Justice and I am a lawyer with Samfiru Tumarkin LLP.

In answer to your question, when employees are terminated within the probationary period, they are often not entitled to any compensation. However, this is not always the case. It could depend on whether you signed a contract and what the contract says. There could also be other factors at play that may result in you being entitled to compensation.

I suggest you give our firm a call to schedule a consultation. From there we can gather more information and be in a better position to properly advise you as to your rights and entitlements.
