i have worked for an embassy since aug 2015 on contracts 4 of them on continual basis.every time one expires they get me to sign a new one to present..This one expires at end of may and they want me to stay on.I would rather leave but will stay if need be..in each contract it says there is no retirement allowance..I am in the city of ottawa. Is there a law that says they must pay me a severance? and should I stay past the end of may untill they say they no longer need me.

It is entirely up to you whether you want to continue working with the embassy, although keep in mind that if you resign, you will not be owed any severance. If your contract is terminated, or if you are given notice that it is not renewing, and you are a non-unionized Canadian working in the embassy, then you would be owed some sort of severance. Also, if you have signed temporary contracts repeatedly for the past 2 years, you would be considered a 2-year employee for the purpose of calculating any severance. Feel free to give us a call at the number below to discuss your situation in more detail. We would be happy to help in any way we can.
