Add Comment Question: I terminated an employee for multiple tardies and absenteeism. She was with us a year and a half and terminated 9-8-16. This year she received over 14 tardies and 5 unexcused absences. At 8 tardies this year I issused a verbal warning, 30 days later I issued a written warning (after she was tardy 4 more times). 2 WEEKS after that I terminated her after she got 2 more tardies. THIS IS THE KICKER. I moved her shift to later in the day to help her not be late anymore and she left work 2 more time early even after the write up. She says she had to leave work to get her kids. Do you think I had grounds to terminate her? Answer: I am assuming you want to know whether you had "cause" to terminate this employee and thus not provide any type of notice of termination and severance pay. Various factors need to be considered and assessed when addressing the issue of termination for cause including a review of the employee's employment contract (if one exists), history of infractions as well as the records of discipline. I would recommend that you contact our office to discuss. Your Comment * Your Email * Your Name * Your City Note, your name, city and email is not displayed on the website.
