Add Comment Question: My work schedule was modified from 5 days a week, starting at 7:30 am until 5 pm, M-F. Friday's I could leave a bit early, so long as I didn't exceed 44 hours. About 2 months ago, they changed my schedule and a few others schedule around so that they had more people around at the end of the day to help, each person's new schedule varied depending on their circumstance. My schedule was changed to 4 days a week, which averages out to be 11 per day. Monday's are usually the busiest day, so I would usually leave when all the orders were picked, which would give me on average 11.5 - 11.75 for the day. They are now telling me that I need to stay until all the work is finished, which usually works out to be 7:30 pm - 7:45 pm; during the course of my 11 hour day, I have 2 15 min. breaks and a half hour lunch. Can they force me to stay longer than 11 hours in a day, and do they have to provide me with a set schedule in terms of the time I finish. They wanted to change my starting time, but because where they are located, there isn't any public transportation, so they accepted the fact that I could keep my original start time so that I would be able to get to work. And because I usually get in at 7:15 am at the latest, I am able to start working right away from that time on. Can I lose my job over this conflict in the schedule? Answer: Your employer is free to terminate your employment for any reason as long as they provide you with your severance pay upon termination.
