8 year employee with a medium size manufacturing company. I require 4 days off but I don't want to tell my employer why. Do I have to, and is there anything they can do about it other than putting it on my absenteeism record? Thank you.

If it is not sanctioned time-off, such as vacation or sick days, then your employer may not have to provide you with the time off (depending on what the time off is being taken for). If you are taking time off for a reason that is not sanctioned by the Employment Standards Act or the company's own policies, then it may lead to trouble at work. There is no defined set of alternatives that an employer can use, necessarily, but it is possible that unsanctioned absenteeism will be used to justify a termination, whether with or without just cause.
