Ask your question about terminations, dismissals and lay offs and an employment lawyer in Ontario, BC or Alberta will answer in minutes
My company is going through a sale and I will accept employment with the new company. My question is, does the new company have to pay me for signing? I am Non Union and all my previous benefits such as rate of pay, vacation and insurance, etc. will remain the same.
Hello,
In answer to your question, the company doesn't necessarily have to pay you (for example, as consideration). Continued employment has been held to amount to consideration in some cases.
However, the document you are signing may contain clauses/provisions that limit your entitlements in ways that they were not limited previously. If so, the company would be required to provide some form of consideration. I suggest contacting our firm to schedule a consultation. From there we can gather more information from you and be in a better position to fully advise you as to your rights and entitlements prior to any agreement being signed.
