Ask your question about terminations, dismissals and lay offs and an employment lawyer in Ontario, BC or Alberta will answer in minutes
I was dismissed with no reason but company wants me to sign a four page release to keep me quiet about the mismanagement. Not wanting me to contact wcb or the professional govement organization that funds this public company who works with the disabled, .. if I want the extra severance pay. They will not give me a reference letter otherwise. I have always had high regards for my performance. Although i have submitted complaints of being auterized by other staff who have no training and are not following the funding bodies regulations. I have asked company to do something. Then find s lf dismissed. I was told this is a human rights issue and neither worksafe or wcb can do anything. It's wrong what can I do. I refuse to sign .
Hello,
You should definitely have one of our employment lawyers review the circumstances surrounding your termination further, as well as the severance package that was offered to you, prior to you agreeing to sign the Release. An employer will generally always require an employee to execute a Release in exchange for paying you more than your minimum termination entitlements, however, it is very likely you are owed more. If you do sign the Release you will not be able to pursue any Human Rights claims. You should ask your employer for an extension of time to review the package and contact our office at your earliest to set up a consult with one of our lawyers.
