Ask your question about terminations, dismissals and lay offs and an employment lawyer in Ontario, BC or Alberta will answer in minutes
hi: employee doing bookkeeping for me, small businesses plus we manage a couple. we dropped one ( a condo building I live in) and she got mad, emailed that condo board, demanded 60 days notice, sent then a contract from her private company and said they needed to hire her because she did so much work on that account. since then, says she is sick, not been back at work several weeks.
can I fire her? with out severance? 2 yrs in my employ, 4 days a week
It is always an option for you to terminate her employment upon the provision of severance pay. At only 2 years of employment in an administrative role, you may not be looking at a considerable expense. Terminating without cause can be difficult to justify in court, but it sounds like you may have the ground work to do so. Either way, I recommend speaking to an employment lawyer at the number below to discuss your best options and how to minimize exposure.
