Ask your question about terminations, dismissals and lay offs and an employment lawyer in Ontario, BC or Alberta will answer in minutes
Employees clock in and out daily through an app, using their desk top computer. The internet in our area can be slow at times. One employee is regularly asking to have their start time adjusted to 8am due to the slow internet service. This person is regularly clocks in right at 8 or minutes after, often blaming it on the internet if its after 8am.
Other employees who start at 8am do not have this issue. Can I refuse to adjust their start time, and advise to arrive a few minutes earlier to ensure they are able to clock in on time?
Thank you for your question. You may want to first take a look at their computer to see if there is a reason that this employee is having issues even though others aren't. If you can demonstrate that there is nothing wrong with the internet service, then you should have a candid discussion with the employee about why they are regularly arriving late. I would not recommend refusing to adjust their start time outright.
If this employee still continues to arrive late after having a candid discussion and it is causing a disruption to your business, feel free to contact us for a consultation so that we can discuss your issue in more detail.
