Ask your question about terminations, dismissals and lay offs and an employment lawyer in Ontario, BC or Alberta will answer in minutes
I was fired for "falsifying a document" that everyone in my field has access to. I have never made the mistake they claim in the past, and was not given written and/or verbal warning, but was instead suspended pending an investigation, and then terminated a week later, without viable proof. Did they follow a proper protocol, and do I have the right to refute the allegations and/or request severance? Most importantly, should I get a lawyer?
You definitely need a lawyer as terminations "for cause" are notoriously difficult to challenge by self-represented employees. A termination for cause is valid only if it's supported with strong evidence of the alleged "forgery" and if the employer can prove that it gave the employee an opportunity to defend himself/herself. I encourage you to call us to speak with one of our lawyers about your entitlements and options going forward.
