Ask your question about terminations, dismissals and lay offs and an employment lawyer in Ontario, BC or Alberta will answer in minutes
If a salaried employee is taking time off work to help an adult child with a medical issue can their salary be deducted for the time missed
Thank you for your question. My name is Stephen Gillman and I am an employment lawyer at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP. In answer to your question, absent a company policy or contractual right the Employer does not have to pay for time an employee takes off to care for family members. In most cases you would have to provide the employee with time off or provide an accommodated schedule but not pay the employee for the time off. I would be happy to set up a free and confidential consultation so we can fully discuss. Please email me directly at stephen.gillman@stlawyers.ca so we can set up a time.
