Ask your question about terminations, dismissals and lay offs and an employment lawyer in Ontario, BC or Alberta will answer in minutes
I started working in an accounting office of 3 people in Aug 2016, went on mat leave on Dec 2016 to Dec 2017, went back to work in Jan 2018. I was often sick with my child being sick and took 10 sick days in 2 months. One day in April 2018 my boss told me that performance is not up to his standard and let me go. I noticed that he paid me out all my sick days, along with 1 week pay and $200. I have a small child to raise and I really need this job. I want to file a complaint for wrongful dismissal because I don't think I should be fired for trying to raise a kid and working full time. Thank you.
If you were terminated due to your family care obligations, there could be a potential claim against the employer for violation of your rights.
You may also be entitled to a greater amount of notice/pay in lieu then the employer provided when terminating your employment.
We would need more information before advising on the extent of your potential entitlements. If you would like to schedule a consultation, you can contact us at the number below.
