Ask your question about terminations, dismissals and lay offs and an employment lawyer in Ontario, BC or Alberta will answer in minutes
I work in cosmetics for a pharmacy chain. My shift ends at midnight but I have been told I can't leave until the last till is counted and everyone leaves together for security. My till is done at 11:30. I usually takes 5 to 15 minutes. If there is a late prescription maybe I get out 12:20. I don't mind so much but they do not pay me for this time. Is that legal?
Hello,
Thank you for your question.
In short, it depends. It depends on the position you have, whether you have a contract of employment (and what the contract says), how long this has been going on for (i.e. how long have you tolerated this additional 20 minutes?), and other factors.
If you would like to discuss the situation in more detail, I suggest you give our firm a call to book a consultation. From there we can gather more information from you, and be in a better position to fully advise you as to your rights and entitlements.
